Circus on the Streets of Samobor: Cu'fus Street Performance Festival

Next weekend will see the 7th edition of Samobor's well-known outdoor circus festival

When the workweek wears you down and you're in for a change of scenery, let Samobor be your first choice: it's located only 20km from Zagreb so the trip won't take you a lot more than 30 minutes, and the town is also well-connected to the capital by multiple bus lines. It's a charming place with well-preserved medieval wooden traditional architecture and a main square lined with beautifully restored baroque facades. When you're done sightseeing, an unwritten rule commands you should have coffee and kremšnite, the traditional local custard creme pastry.

Samobor is quaint and colourful any day of the week, but the next weekend will see it in its full spring glory – it's time for the annual outdoor circus festival! Dedicated to street performance artists, Cu'fus will bring some playful spirit to Samobor's streets, squares and parks, providing enough entertainment to have you spend the whole weekend outside. According to the official announcement, numerous Croatian and international circus artists are coming to town: crazy Spaniards with lamps on their heads, flying Frenchmen, abnormally long-legged Austrians, reckless Slovenes, deranged Balkan people, motionless Istrians...

This year's edition will explore all areas of circus performances and have the artists experimenting with new media as part of their acts, borrowing elements from domains such as digital art, contemporary dance and physical theatre. Apart from regular street circus, there's going to be a children's programme called cu'fusek, live music shows, contests, games, and circus workshops. All performances are free, but be a good sport and make sure to throw a tip into the performers' hats.

The festival is taking place form Thursday, May 18th to Sunday, May 21st – just in time for you to plan your next weekend getaway. The best thing about Samobor is that you'll enjoy the trip whether you stay for a couple of hours or a couple of days, and Cu'fus is here to make your visit memorable. Check out the detailed programme on their website, and take a look at the video below for a preview:
