Vlaho Bukovac's Painting Livens up Facade at Dolac

Moj Zagreb and Zakaj volim Zagreb groups on Facebook have been filled with photos of a mysterious new mural at Dolac for the past few days.

Some people thought it was Photoshop, others that it was a hologram, until Marinko Agic added a photo to Zakaj volim Zagreb, explaining that he had participated in creating the mural.

Most citizens wondered why it was painted during the night and whether it had the permission to be there, but the mural is actually part of Outings project, initiated by Julien de Casabianca, French artist whose exhibition will be presented at French Institute’s Médiathèque later this month. De Casabianca’s project includes selecting forgotten paintings from museums and creating murals using parts of those paintings.

The mural at Dolac is based on Vlaho Bukovac's painting from 1897, called Moje gnijezdo (My nest), a term of endearment he liked to use to refer to his children.

With his project, De Casabiancas aims to encourage people to go to museums and explore, so he firmly believes that they should participate in creating the murals, as was the case in Zagreb.
