The Park is located at Trg Stjepana Radića.
By raising flags of Mainz and Zagreb, Mainz Mayor Michael Ebling and Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić opened the Peace and Friendship Park today. 45 flagpoles with flags of Zagreb’s sister cities are now lining the path leading towards Zagreb City Hall at Trg Stjepana Radića. The City of Zagreb has dedicated the Park to all sister cities to say thank you for their cooperation so far.

“The Peace and Friendship Park was opened on my own initiative and in cooperation with Zagreb’s sister cities. It will serve as a valuable green space in the city, and as a symbol of the historic path that the City of Zagreb has gone through in creating valuable and true partners – sister cities,” Mayor Bandić pointed out, adding that the EU’s policies nowadays enable capital cities to have more independence and participate in creating policies at the European level from the start.

Zagreb Mayor also thanked the delegation of the City of Mainz for their visit on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of friendship between the two cities.
“Thank you, Mr Ebling, for visiting us so that we could raise both of our cities’ flags today, symbolising our success and reminding us to cooperate even more closely and support each other in the future as well.”

Mayor Ebling congratulated Zagreb on opening the new park, adding that the friendship of Zagreb and Mainz has gone through a lot, with some troubling times, but it has proven to be a long-lasting relationship.
“Our cooperation means that we have taken over the responsibility and tried to improve the understanding between our nations. This is a task that all our cities and citizens must undertake, and not only governments.”

Mayor Bandić and Mayor Ebling took the low-floor tram, NT 220 Zagreb-Mainz, from the Remiza terminal. The tram has been circulating Zagreb streets since September 4, 2017, to commemorate 50 years of friendship between the two cities, and it will be on Zagreb streets until the end of the year.
