A Surprise Dinner? Where? Gypsy Table Keeps us in Suspense

By 28 November 2017

An important element of the Gypsy Table is excitement and the sensation of something unknown as the surprise is the menu and the location, while guests receive the exact location of the event 24-48 hours ahead of the dinner

A secret location in Zagreb will soon host the first in a series of ‘wandering’ pop-up events. They will be dinners named Gypsy Table, a culinary experience which aims to present cooking talents from all over Croatia. The idea is to offer a gastro experience with local produce served in the most original of locations.

Pop-up dinners are intended for a very demanding audience and are really not an ordinary dinner, but a special, new and different gastro event. The point is not only to enjoy food but also the experience, sensations and emotion. Sometimes the accent will be an unexpected location, sometimes personal interaction with the chef, an original menu of theme, but certainly always something new which cannot be found in a standard restaurant or ran rarely be found.

An important element of the Gypsy Table is excitement and the sensation of something unknown as the surprise is the menu and the location, while guests receive the exact location of the event 24-48 hours ahead of the dinner. It may be a candle lit dinner in a medieval convent or a long table set in nature, on top of a mountain. One thing is certain, it will be a completely original dinner to remember.

The first Croatian Gypsy Table was held in one of the spaces of Lazareti, an extension of the Dubrovnik tow walls used in medieval times as a quarantine for sailors, today a location of art workshops, concerts and wine festivals, while another was held in the Dubrovnik Aquarium. Tickets for both events were sold out in less than 3 days after the announcement. Each Gypsy Table dinner supports and promotes awareness in cooperation with a local charity organization, so some of the income is donated. At the event participants can learn more about the charitable purpose and the institution it is being donated to.

One of the missions of Gypsy Table association is to be a bridge between society and charity organizations. This time the benefactor of the donation will be the International Women’s Club Zagreb together with the UNUO Centre, whose intent and purpose is to improve services in tourism for people with special needs. As Christmas is near, participants will also be asked to bring with them a new toy which will be donated to children in need. Also, anyone purchasing a ticket can also add an amount as desired as a separate donation.

So far the only announcement is the date of the event, Sunday, December 10, from 18 to 22h. The location is a secret, to be revealed to guests via email and social networks the day before. The menu is also a secret, so guests will not know what will be on the plate until it is served. Manning the kitchen will be Richard Gruica (Gypsy Table), Robert Hromalić (Time patisserie), Teo Ivanišević (Pod Zidom Bistro & Wine Bar), Marin Rendić (Bistro Apetit) and Vedran Stojanac (Dežman Bar), with inspirational cocktails under the masterful hand of Zvonimir Lovrenčić from the Acrobat company and Marijan Maksan of the Dežman Mini Bar. The project is managed by Morana Petričević. The price of the dinner is 1.000 kunas per person, and slightly lower for a couple, 1.750 kunas. It includes all food, cocktails, wine, craft beer, music and everything else for the curios and brave guests. It should be said the Gypsy Table supports only authentic Croatian products.
