Red Army Choir to Perform at Lisinski

By 19 August 2017

One of the world’s most famous choirs is coming to Zagreb in November.

Founded in 1929, the renowned Alexandrov Ensemble, more commonly known as the Red Army Choir, is the official army choir of the Russian armed forces. The Ensemble comprises a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble.
Considered to be a symbol of Russian culture, the ensemble consists of 120 singers, dancers and musicians who perform traditional Russian, ethnic, military and patriotic songs and Russian dances.

The Ensemble performs at the most important events at the Russian government functions. It has entertained audiences both in Russia and throughout the world, performing a range of music including folk tunes, hymns, operatic arias, but also pop and rock music. They have performed with Leningrad Cowboys, for example.

A terrible tragedy that happened to the choir’s members who were flying from Russia to Syria shocked the world last Christmas– 63 members of the choir, including artistic director Valery Khalilov, were killed when the Russian Defence Ministry aircraft crashed. After 5 weeks, the choir was reformed anew in time for Defender of the Fatherland Day celebrations on 18 February 2017.

The first performance of the new ensemble was dedicated to their late colleagues and their family members.

They started their world tour in March, part of which will bring them to Zagreb as well. Zagreb audience will be able to enjoy this spectacle on two separate days, on November 13 and 14. Even though the tickets are not cheap (HRK 320 – 500), this one-of-a-kind performance by 120 dancers and musicians will undoubtedly thrill everyone in the audience.

You can get the tickets for November 13 here and November 14 here.
