Cravat Regiment Welcomes First Two Women into Guard of Honor

By 11 April 2017

The Cravat Regiment, one of the most captivating tourist attractions in Zagreb, represents a Guard of Honor that performs a ceremonial procession around the Upper Town every Saturday and Sunday from April to October. The honorary soldier squad includes horsemen, armourers, drummers and flag-bearers, all of whom are clad in uniforms designed after those worn by Croat soldiers during the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century.

The regiment held their annual recruitment ceremony in Zagreb on Monday, April 10th 2017. For the first time since the regiment was founded in 2010, two women got accepted into the Guard of Honor: Anita Vencl, a horse riding instructor, and Neda Budaš, a veterinary technician who practices archery. Alongside with other five new recruits, they will participate in their first official exchange of the guard on St. Mark's Square on Easter Monday, April 17th at noon.
